From Open Patio to All-Season Comfort: A Nashville Outdoor Living Transformation

April 9, 2026

Outdoor spaces should be more than seasonal — they should be places you can enjoy year-round. Recently, our team at S&S Design Build helped a Nashville-area homeowner transform an open patio into a comfortable, functional retreat designed for every season.

What was once an exposed outdoor area is now a beautifully crafted screen enclosure paired with a modern Contempo patio cover, delivering the perfect balance of protection, comfort, and open-air living.

The Goal: Comfort Without Losing the Outdoors

Many homeowners love their patios but struggle with common issues — intense sun, rain interruptions, and insects that make relaxing outdoors difficult. The goal for this project was simple:

  • Add shade and weather protection
  • Keep airflow and outdoor views
  • Reduce bugs and debris
  • Create a space usable throughout the year

The solution was a custom-designed screen enclosure combined with a Contempo insulated patio cover system.

The Upgrade: Screen Enclosure + Contempo Patio Cover

This project brought together thoughtful design and durable materials to create an outdoor living space that feels like a natural extension of the home.

The Contempo patio cover provides insulated roof panels that help regulate temperature while delivering reliable shade during Tennessee’s hot summers. At the same time, the screened enclosure allows fresh air to flow freely while keeping insects out — preserving that open, outdoor atmosphere homeowners love.

Built with high-quality aluminum framing, the structure is engineered for long-term performance and minimal maintenance, ensuring years of enjoyment.

Designed for Everyday Living

Now, this upgraded patio serves multiple purposes throughout the day:

  • ☕ Peaceful morning coffee in shaded comfort
  • 🍽️ Family dinners without worrying about bugs
  • 🌙 Relaxing evenings outdoors, rain or shine
  • 🌿 A versatile space that connects indoor and outdoor living

Instead of being limited by weather or seasons, the homeowners now have a functional outdoor room they can enjoy almost every day of the year.

Why a Design-Build Approach Matters

A successful outdoor upgrade goes beyond installation — it starts with thoughtful planning and cohesive design. Our design-build approach ensures every element works together, from permitting and engineering to construction and finishing details.

By managing the entire process, we help homeowners avoid common issues like mismatched structures, poor drainage planning, or designs that don’t complement the home’s architecture.

The result is a seamless addition that looks original to the house — not an afterthought.

Thinking About Upgrading Your Outdoor Space?

If you’re searching for a screen enclosure contractor near Nashville or considering a patio cover installation, this project shows what’s possible when design, durability, and craftsmanship come together.

Whether you want shade, protection from insects, or a fully functional outdoor living area, the right solution can completely change how you use your backyard.

5 Benefits of Adding a Screen Enclosure to Your Outdoor Space | S&S Design Build

September 24, 2026
If you love spending time outdoors but want a little more comfort, privacy, and protection, a screen enclosure could be the perfect addition to your home. Screen enclosures allow you to enjoy your patio or outdoor living area while creating a more comfortable and functional space for relaxing and entertaining. At S&S Design Build , we specialize in designing and building custom outdoor living spaces throughout Middle Tennessee. Here are five benefits of adding a screen enclosure to your home. 1. Create an Enhanced Outdoor Living Space A screen enclosure can transform an ordinary patio into an inviting outdoor living area. Whether you want a place to enjoy your morning coffee, entertain friends and family, or simply relax after a long day, a screened-in space gives you another area to enjoy at home. Screen enclosures can also be combined with a patio cover, outdoor kitchen, fireplace, comfortable furniture, or other outdoor features to create a space designed around the way you live. 2. Enjoy More Privacy Adding screens can provide additional privacy while you're enjoying your backyard. Instead of feeling completely exposed to neighboring properties, a screened-in porch or patio creates a more enclosed and comfortable environment. With the right design, your outdoor space can feel like a private extension of your home. 3. Add Functionality to Your Home One of the biggest benefits of a screen enclosure is simply being able to use your outdoor space more often. A covered and screened-in patio can provide a comfortable place to sit, dine, entertain, or enjoy the outdoors while keeping the space separated from many of the common nuisances associated with an open patio. For homeowners who already have an existing patio or deck, a screen enclosure can be a great way to get more use out of the space they already have. 4. Create a More Comfortable Outdoor Environment A screen enclosure provides a transition between your indoor and outdoor living areas. When paired with a quality patio cover, it can create a shaded and comfortable place to spend time outside. For homeowners looking for even more flexibility, EZ Breeze windows can turn a screened area into a versatile three-season room. The windows allow you to enjoy fresh air when the weather is nice while giving you the option to close the space when conditions change. 5. Low-Maintenance Outdoor Enjoyment Homeowners want outdoor spaces that are beautiful without requiring constant maintenance. A properly designed screen enclosure can provide a clean, finished appearance while allowing you to enjoy your patio without the upkeep associated with some other outdoor improvements. From simple screened patios to fully customized outdoor living spaces, the design can be tailored to your home and how you want to use it. Build an Outdoor Space You'll Love A screen enclosure can do much more than simply add screens around your patio. It can create a comfortable, functional outdoor living area that gives you another place to enjoy your home. At S&S Design Build , we specialize in creating custom outdoor spaces, including: Screen enclosures Patio covers S unroom Motorized shades Custom decks Paver patios Outdoor fireplaces Concrete patios And more If you're considering a screen enclosure or outdoor living project in Nashville and Middle Tennessee , we'd love to help bring your ideas to life.
